When one declares oneself to be a conservative, one is not, unfortunately, thereupon visited by tongues of fire that leave one omniscient. The acceptance of a series of premises is just the beginning. After that, we need constantly to inform ourselves, to analyze and to think through our premises and their ramifications. We need to ponder, in the light of the evidence, the strengths and the weaknesses, the consistencies and the inconsistencies, the glory and the frailty of our position, week in and week out. Otherwise, we will not hold our own in a world where informed dedication, not just dedication, is necessary for survival and growth.

Who in Tarnation is Gayle?

I'm a conservative blogger and have been blogging at http://www.myrepublicanblog/ for approximately four years. I used to post every day, but life has managed to get in the way of such tenacity and I've found I have to slow down. Time passes too darn fast!

We own a farm in the country and my closest neighbors are far enough away where I can't see them, which both my husband and I appreciate. It's not that we don't like people, we just don't like people barging in at all hours of the day and night. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and retired Army. Our children are all grown and on their own. We've moved so many times I can't remember them all, but we're here on the farm in Texas to stay. We grow corn and milo in the summer and wheat in the winter. We go to Church on Sundays and do volunteer work locally. Although it would probably not be appreciated by the PETA people, I shoot wild hogs when I find them because they destroy our crops and kill other small animals, like our outdoor cats. I also will shoot a rattlesnake or a water moccasin on sight. No... I don't lose any sleep over it. When I go fishing I keep what I catch unless I go over the limit. I'm not "politically correct" but I am always polite unless treated with rudeness. I love America and am extremely proud of it. I realize we have our faults, but there's no other country on earth where I'd rather be. I always realized how lucky I was to have been born here, and I pray every night when I go to bed that the liberals don't screw it up too terribly!

Welcome Gayle! You know the crowd already, and it won't take long to get to know the regulars!

I have always liked Texas, and mt brother lives in College Station. Perhaps I can drop by and you can teachme to run one of those big combines!

Teach you to run one of those big combines, Robert? LOL! Not likely! We are what is known in these parts as "gentlemen farmers". We have someone else do the work in the main fields where we grow corn, wheat, milo and such. We do run some pretty large gardens in the summer though. Most of our vegetables are from our own gardens.

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. Now I have to go paint. Blessings to all!

Hello Gayle,

What are shooting those hogs and snakes with? Do you do any game bird hunting on your property?

Sounds like a little taste of heaven!

This site looks amazing and, if Gayle is going to be adding her wonderful, wisps of wisdom, I am sure that it will be evermore amazing in the days to come. I know that you are kept extremely busy, girlfriend - but It's nice to see that you are willing to "redistribute your wealth" of knowledge!

You are all so very kind. Thank you so much! WOW!

Words of wisdom? Hardly! I've been looking at some of the posts on this blog and honestly, I don't write half as well as most of you here. I'm feeling quite humbled.

To answer one of the questions above, I shoot the snakes with a shotgun and the hogs with a Winchester rifle with a scope. We do have wild turkeys here, but I don't shoot them, because I don't want to clean them. :)

LOL Gayle, they were my exact words to a T! I kept thinking to myself there is no way, that I can write like that! But some wise person told me that is takes all kinds and that everyone adds their own special touch!

Jenn, I think I agree with this wise person....

Gayle, advertising is an exercise in psychology. One of the first things I learned about advertising is that you have to have different styles to reach different people. I am a fan of Tom Clancy, the fiction writer. One of his books, "Executive Orders", I think it was, was given to me with a gold colored cover. A few days later I was in a bookstore and saw the same book in a silver color. SAme book, different color jacket to attract the attention of people who are attracted to different colors.

Doing it like everyone else does it isn't important. The main thing is a conservative topic and a desire to say something...
