When one declares oneself to be a conservative, one is not, unfortunately, thereupon visited by tongues of fire that leave one omniscient. The acceptance of a series of premises is just the beginning. After that, we need constantly to inform ourselves, to analyze and to think through our premises and their ramifications. We need to ponder, in the light of the evidence, the strengths and the weaknesses, the consistencies and the inconsistencies, the glory and the frailty of our position, week in and week out. Otherwise, we will not hold our own in a world where informed dedication, not just dedication, is necessary for survival and growth.

Veterans Day Tribute

Thank You Dad!

Veterans day is so much more than a day off of school or work. It is a day to remember and honor all those that have served in the armed forces.

We remember that the men and women of the United States Military have freely chosen to protect us and give us this gift. It is a gift that can never be reciprocated in full, and only asks for remembrance in return.

We remember the sacrifices made and the cost that has been paid. From the beginning of time Americans have answered their country's call to duty and have done it with the dignity and honor that we celebrate today.

To truly honor our veterans, we need to make the most of the opportunities, that the sacrifices of our fighting men and women have provided for us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
A special thank you to Robert, Mustang, DD2 and all our other readers that have been in the armed forces!

"WHAT IS A VETERAN? A Veteran whether active duty, reserve or retired is someone who, at one time in their lives wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount up to and including his/her life."
Steven C. Schreiner-Veteran, S.E. Asia 68-69 and 70-71

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Nice post Jenn, and thank you for your kind words.

To everyone who has served, I raise my glass to you with a sincere"Thank You." I am a veteran, proud of my service;proud of my choices;proud of my country. While everyone knows someone who has served, it is actually a pretty small percentage of Americans who are on active duty at any given time. The honor of serving the nation and her citizens fell on millions of men and women before I was born, and God willing, will fall on millions after I pass.

Take a moment and thank the veteran's you know tod ay with a simple expression of gratitude. It will make their day!

A beautiful tribute to our men and women who have served, who are serving and who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to The United States of America.
