After a day of casting multiple ballots, the Republican National Committee voted to make former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele as Chairman.
There are some concerns about Steele, as he is more moderate than most conservatives would prefer. However, he is a fresh breath of air into party that needs to modernize, and decide that they are tired of the 1050s look...
I listened just moments ago to the acceptance speech delivered by Steele, and it included references to "conservative principles" and the conservative party. I think there is some danger here that he truly does not understand what is needed, but for now, his attempts at making the party cool again are working....Let us hope that he considers tax cuts cool...

I'm skeptical Robert. He conjures up images of McCain and bi-partisanship to me. I'm concerned that in attempting to create "outreach" he will encourage us to compromise principle. I hope he surprises me.

I applaud the selection for the fact that at least he speaks clearly, with definition and is a known face in the media and talking-head circle. But which "pillars" of conservative thinking is he going to buttress? is he going to dilute the platform for the expediency of "inclusion"? or is he going to (as I hope) hone in a few basic core beliefs and really shape the rally flag around loud and proud identifiers?... Time will tell,... it always does.
My gut is to support him. I have tended to like him so far. I'm taking a wait and see.
I have met and interviewed Michael Steele. I found his answers to my questions very straight forward and very conservative.
He also understands that the GOP needs a slate of good solid conservative candidates who will run to replace the RINOS and Democrats in 2010 and 2012.
I beleive he will be good for the party and lead it back to conservative values and ideals as well as tackling the issues from a conservative stand.

Congratulations to Michael Steele.
I don't agree with him on a lot of issues, but there's not doubt about his skills as a politician and his intelligence.
And I have to say that IMHO, he won this hard fought position due to the Age of Obama.
Everyone's a winner in this.
Steele is a Marxist through and through. Bi-partisanship is but the first step on the slippery slope to collectivism.

I think you are right, that this "Age of Obama" ushered in another historic moment. I have found Steele to be a compelling candidate for some time now, and I think this was the perfect candidate for this time.

What I find sad in this pick is the republicans did not pick him for his intelligence or because he can do the job! They picked him because he is black, and he will not really be a chairperson or even listend to! He's window dressing for the republican party. It's a sad day when they stoop to useing people this way, and it's sad steele isn't Bright enough and intelligent enough to understand that he is being used to steal back the black vote from the demacratic party. How sick, and sad when the day comes that this grand old party stoops to such a distastful act simply to win over another party. sad day for America, indeed. The thing is the republican party really believes we Americans are stupid enough not to see through this.
If Obama had not won the GOP wouLd not have picked him. Its like the only reason Clarence Thomas was picked. But i am afraid at how this will play out come election time for Democrats with the African American vote. Steele is also well liked among African Americans. The Republicans were sneaky to do this to our President OBAMA.
The African American community isn't fooled by the Limbaugh Party. They don't vote for someone because they are black. They vote for someone based on ideas and leadership. The Limbaugh Party is void of leadership and they have no ideas of any value. They are a party losing ground everyday.
The GOP is uncreative and reactionary bunch. They “elected” a Blackman with sub-par and mediocre background. A party with less than 2% blacks, < 10 Hispanics, simply picked Kryptonite to counter-attack “Superman” President Obama!
His pick is as bad as John McCain’s pick, Sarah Palin!
He has no credibility and/or statue to alter GOP’s image issue nor can he transform their inferior ideas. In short, there’s no upside to his pick.

Wow Matt, that's an incredibly racist comment you made there. He got the job because he's black, not because he's qualified. For the record, I wanted Michael Steele to run for President. Not because he's black, becuase he's a bonafide conservative and I like him.
Also, take your post and substitute Steele's name for Obama and reverse the parties. Recognize anything?

Why is it that liberals always discount conservative blacks. Are you one of the people calling Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice "uncle Toms" or "house negroes"? Let's not forget Colin Powell, despised by the left until he supported Obama (because he's black). Now he's a hero to the left.
In my experience there are few people as racist as liberal Democrats.
