When one declares oneself to be a conservative, one is not, unfortunately, thereupon visited by tongues of fire that leave one omniscient. The acceptance of a series of premises is just the beginning. After that, we need constantly to inform ourselves, to analyze and to think through our premises and their ramifications. We need to ponder, in the light of the evidence, the strengths and the weaknesses, the consistencies and the inconsistencies, the glory and the frailty of our position, week in and week out. Otherwise, we will not hold our own in a world where informed dedication, not just dedication, is necessary for survival and growth.

Obama Signs Stimulus...Guest Post by Ken Taylor

OBAMA SIGNS STIMULUS TO THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE ENDING AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT

"So this is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause." Senator Amidala, from Star Wars II Attack of the Clones.

America as we have known it and loved it came to an end in Denver, Colorado as Barack Obama signed the single largest transfer of power to the federal government that he calls, "The Economic Recovery Package." Obama socialism in The United States has begun and it began with, "thunderous applause."

The 787 billion dollar socialist spending bill, rushed through Congress without a single Senator, Representative or citizen having the first opportunity to read or review this massive transfer of power to the government shakes the very foundation of our Nation as the end of Constitutional individual freedom and responsibility is being replaced by government control and socialist programs designed to create dependency rather than freedom.

The rush to pass without review was intentional in order to get a Presidential signature before Americans had an opportunity to protest this government take over at the hands of Obama and the Democrats. In their tingling leg worship of Barack Obama the media refused to vet this take over and the American people were denied an opportunity to find out what this President and the Democrat Congress are forcing down our throats.

More than 32 new government programs are included in this debacle. Programs designed to eliminate self reliance and force government dependency. All without the first opportunity to find out what is being forced upon us nor the details of this deconstruction of our Constitution and our Republic.

And because of blind worship of an inept President the bill was signed to, "thunderous applause." Using 10 pens which cost the American people 78.7 billion dollars per pen Obama with a air of arrogance signed a portion of his name with each pen and then proclaimed with the satisfaction that his American socialism had begun, "it's done."

Yes my fellow Americans, "it's done." The beginning of the end of our freedom. "It's done, " the beginning of the end of Constitutional principles that have sustained our Nation since 1788. "It's done," the beginning of a European style socialism created by Obama for Obama and because of Obama. "It's done, " and it was done with ,"thunderous applause."

I disagree.

Obama is not inept, he is very adept. He said the Warren court didn't go far enough to redress the "fundamental flaw of our founding" in that we have a series of "negative rights" (the bill of rights) that list what government can't do to us, where in his judgement, the constitution should list what it must do "on our behalf." The courts, didn't go far enough to, in his judgement, redress the issue of redistributive justice. This is a man who knows exactly what he wants and we seem to be all to willing to give it to him.

This is man so well versed in Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals that he makes the truth appear to be a lie and a lie, the truth. Oh no, he is not inept. He is very intentional and so far, very adept at getting what he wants.

CB, I agree that he knows exactely what he is doing but from a Constitutional stand point, he is inept and as a President he is equally inept because he sees as his dut to correct what he sees as flaws in a Constitution that has been the rule of law making this nation the greatest in history.

His ineptness as President is evident in his sorry job selecting a cabinet without vetting anyone, and in his constant reversal of everything he says he is going to do especially transperency!

For the time being he gets what he wants because many have yet to see through the fog and truly understand how dangerous he is and how he plans to change the fundamental principles of this country.

Also he is good a whining and staying in constant campaign mode which he uses to continue platitudes and empty rhetoric because it worked for him so well as a candidate. it will not be long before this slick finish will fail him as President.

The NYT is reporting he's about to make carbon dioxide illegal through the EPA all under the rouse of global warming. The transfer of wealth from the private economy to government will dwarf the porkulus package just passed and make the cost of everything shoot up immediately.

I think he's trying to drive us into the stone age toward a Pol Pot like regime. See you in the re-education camp or the rice patties.

The only silver lining in this whole Obama debacle is that his failings continue to mount and as such sooner or later the majority of the people, (not just those of us who have always seen through the hype), will eventually realize how bad he really is.

We have to survive at least until 2010 when enough opposition in Congress can be voted into office. By that time I hope that the GOP will have their act together and stick to real conservatism rather than the abandoned form that ruled the roost for the last 6 or 7 years.

Then it is only a question as to how much damage Obama and his unfettered socialism with Reid and pelosi has done to the country.

Everytime I hear the reference to "...this is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause..." and compare it to the goings on of today's political actions, I get chills...

Obama is going to drain our nation of all finacial security. This is just one bill of many that he plans on acting on. This one is probably the biggest given he knew he had to act quickly before the media woke from their trance.
Now the real work starts, so campaign mode is vital to maintaining some level of popularity. If he can keep his popularity above 60%, he will be able to do almost anything. As soon as it falls below 50% congress won't be able to carry out his plans without loosing power.
We must force his hand and constantly expose his failings. The media will make every concession for him. Truth and honesty will be our only tool, while lies and propaganda will constantly try to hide these truths.
Keep up the good work in exposing the lies.

Ken, you should know better than to start quoting Star Wars around me. You get comments like the one below. :)

FYI, the Star Wars quote is from Episode III, intercut with scenes of Anakin (now the pre-legs sliced off, pre-burning Vader), Palpatine's right hand man, slicing people and droids very, very dead.

On a side note, I could see Rahm (Obama's right hand man) doing that.

But the point of that scene (which totally relates to today) is that investing more and more trust in a leader can eventually lead to destruction. The prequel movies themselves are, in part, about Senator/Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine gathering more power and finding reasons to justify staying in office while claiming to bring peace and security to the Empire.

Which reminds me of a saying attributed to Benjamin Franklin, which goes (and I'm doing this from memory): "Those who would trade freedom for temporary security deserve neither.

Not to say Obama is (or is not) a Sith lord....

Heh. Heh.

What better training for dealing with the complicated issues of the day than watching Star Trek?

Oh woe is us. The 'end of America as we know it'.

I wish.

Of course the previous Administration tossing a couple of trillion down the drain in the Middle East seems to trouble you not at all.

Back to your DVD player.

Arthur: You can't even read OR get your sci-fi straight, can you?

And if you knew the series in question as I do, you know what the historical and sociological underpinnings of the story are.

Hint: It has little to do with wandering the streets merrily, waiting for the pork to roll in from DC.

Since no one who posts to Conservative Convictions ever ventures to other blogs except Jennifer I had planned on moving on but I could not let the above line pass by without a comment...

I know you were speaking of Obama but that seems to be the exact same feeling I had when Bush was popular....

Having just returned from Las Vegas where I spent a few hours driving around viewing the housing situation there I cannot help but marvel at the sheer number of homes foreclosed there.

Whole neighborhoods are gone. Complete subdivisions are vacant.

I have no idea how our economy can ever absorb that amount of excess without some severe value reductions. I am not sure if there are enough credit worthy people left in Las Vegas to ever create enough demand to match the housing supply....at whatever price.

I would love to believe that six months of some serious pain would all of the sudden create growth in our economic system...but realistically the excess is so widespread and so massive I can only see permanent damage to our living standards, not a six month adjustment.

But I guess if we keep ranting about Obama we can continue to deny the absurdity of the past 8 years and continue to deny the obvious of our economic situation.

Arthurstone: There was not a single conservative who agreed with President Bush all the time. But there is a huge difference between spending money for a just cause, even if not everybody sees the justness, and using money to enable the government to get involved in places it has no business being; ie: the private business sector.

"America as we know it..." is a clear reference to the principles laid down by our founders. Those principles had been being eroded. Now they have been erased in one swoop.

Craig Bardo said...

Well said Joe.

TAO said...

So, Joe, you believe that the government has no business in being in the private business sector yet you have no issue with our government getting involved in the domestic affairs of foreign countries?

But then you do not acknowledge that with the Wall Street Bailout and the prescription drug program and the No Child Left behind that government grew as much if not more than what Obama is proposing and that those three programs are spending alot more money than what Obama is proposing?

The federal reserve is propping up Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and AIG while the Wall Street Bailout was just a program of giving banks the funds to operate and stay afloat.

That all totals 3 trillion dollars with no calculations of interest costs.

Your government has been up to its nose in the private business sector for quite a few years and only NOW you find issue with it.

The real issue is not the plan but rather the fact that it is a democratic plan. Had this been the administration of Sarah Palin you would have whined but found some justification for the actions....

Conservatives get angry only when Democrats put their noses in private business. But that has been going on for years, and everyone who isn't self-deceitful knows it.

The facts are that Mr. Bush presided over a huge expansion of government and got the US very much involved in a foreign intanglement that cost us billions and billions--perhaps trillions of dollars.

Mr. Reagan also had his day as a tax increaser:

"Ronald Reagan does hold a special place in the annals of tax policy, and not just as the patron saint of tax cuts. To his credit, he was more pragmatic and responsible than that; he followed his huge 1981 tax cut with two large tax increases. In fact, no peacetime president has raised taxes so much on so many people. This is not a criticism: the tale of those increases tells you a lot about what was right with President Reagan's leadership, and what's wrong with the leadership of George W. Bush.

The first Reagan tax increase came in 1982. By then it was clear that the budget projections used to justify the 1981 tax cut were wildly optimistic. In response, Mr. Reagan agreed to a sharp rollback of corporate tax cuts, and a smaller rollback of individual income tax cuts. Over all, the 1982 tax increase undid about a third of the 1981 cut; as a share of G.D.P., the increase was substantially larger than Mr. Clinton's 1993 tax increase.

The contrast with President Bush is obvious. President Reagan, confronted with evidence that his tax cuts were fiscally irresponsible, changed course."

But it IS the duty of the party out of power to make a lot of noise and complain.

So carry on--but please no more talk about the end of America as we know it. The Republican Party over the years has been engaged in an awful lot of tax and spending as well as tax-cutting and spending.

Ken, you know I agree with your post. I can see the writing on the wall. Have you ever noticed that every time Obama speaks on television the stock market goes down? I've certainly noticed it as it has hit our investments big time!
